Paraguay’s new Leather Industry Chamber, CIMAC, is wasting no time in promoting locally produced leather and leathergoods.

Representatives of the 20 founder member companies have begun talking about the need for them to work together to improve the quality of their finished leather and leathergoods and to make inroads into export markets.

One leathergoods manufacturer, Gregorio Arzamendia, said: “We want to make absolutely as much as we can from raw materials, and that means we need higher quality leather. We want to stop importing leather from Brazil and Argentina and use only Paraguayan material. But for that, we need farmers in Paraguay to take better care of their livestock.”
