Bangladesh misses out
15/07/2008
Bangladesh is missing out on the opportunity of having duty-free access to the Taiwanese market for exports including leather. Local commentators have accused the government in Dhaka of deliberately passing up the chance of exporting manufactured goods to Taiwan at preferential rates out of fear of compromising trade with China.
Taiwan granted Bangladesh duty-free access to its market in 2006 under Least Developed Country (LDC) status. The concession applied to 125 product categories including leather and footwear.
