14/07/2008

Chemical supplier BASF has unveiled the range of options it is making available to European tanners for the autumn-winter 2009–2010 season.

Under the banner ‘Edition San Remo’ BASF is offering an assortment of textures, colours and design options, with the emphasis on warm earth tones, ranging from dark brown to light beige.

According BASF’s trend experts, Manuel Vila, from
BASF Curtex in Spain and Tom Markelj, based at the compan’s headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany, unusual surface effects are becoming more and more important, and it is for this reason that the new collection includes a focus on pull-up effects in the colours of the sea, starting with seashell apricot and continuing via the rich blue of the Caribbean through to the very dark green of the deep ocean. The complete procedure for manufacturing each type of leather appears in a separate booklet.

The two fashion experts insist that the leathers available will allow tanners and their clients to produce “surprising fashion effects”.

Gerhard Wolf, head of global technical service for leather at BASF, said on announcing the new range that his company wanted to offer the European leather sector innovation and economy for Europe. He explained: “All the leathers can be manufactured with simple, economical processes and can be varied in numerous ways; after all, we always regard cost-effective production as especially important, and that also applies to new trends.”

All of the leather presented here is intended to inspire. It is very versatile and can be adapted to serve as shoe upper leather, bag leather and garment leather.
