A Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for tannery units at Ambur in the Vellore district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India is preparing to go live in September following fast track implementation of the project by the Ambur Tannery Effluent Treatment Company.
Officials at the company told local media that the plant will work through a reverse osmosis process, which will improve water quality in the Palar River.
They said 70% to 80% of the water recovered after treatment would be of higher quality than untreated water in the river and that total dissolved solvent levels would come down from 8,000 milligrammes a litre to 500.
