Leather and footwear production rise
According to country's Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan produced 1.8 million square-metres of finished leather in April 2008 compared to 1.63 million square-metres in April 2007, a growth 10.7%.
Footwear production rose to 2.84 million pairs from 1.98 million pairs in April 2007, showing growth of 42.9%.
On a more negative note, sole leather production fell by 20% to 8 tonnes from 10 tonnes in April 2007.
The total production of leather between July 2007 and April 2008 stood at 17.6 million sqaure-metres, compared to 15.6 million a year ago. Total footwear production over the same period was 20.8 million pairs, up from 19.5 million, and sole leather production was 83 tonnes compared to 110 tonnes.
