Independencia to produce crust leather at own tannery
18/06/2008
Curtume Independencia has announced that it will be investing $16 million in equipment and machinery to start producing crust leather at its Nova Andradina unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Refurbishment of the premises will be complete by the end of September.
Today, the Nova Andradina tannery produces only wet blue, as do the other facilities the tanning group runs. Until now, crust leather has been produced under contract by other companies.
This new investment will enable the Nova Andradina unit to process 4,000 hides to crust as well as the 4,000 wet blue hides it is currently producing each day.
Independencia will keep in place arrangements for contractors to produce another 4,500 crust hides per day on its behalf
