Ceará leads growth in leather
06/06/2008
Of 14 Brazilian states surveyed month by month for industrial growth, only Ceará in the northeast of the country, showed growth in the leather sector for the month of April.
The sector showed growth of 6.6%.
Ceará has tanneries and is attracting footwear and accessory manufacturers north to take advantage of available low-cost labour, raw material and financial incentives. Industry experts have dubbed it “Brazil’s own China”.
The largest growth areas for Brazil’s most established leather-producing state, Rio Grande do Sul, were machinery, food and cars.
