Vietnam: export growth goes on
27/05/2008
In spite of anti-dumping measures from the European Union and ongoing industrial unrest in the country, Vietnam has shown growth of 15.9% in exports of leather, footwear and leathergoods in the first four months of 2008.
Vietnam’s total exports for the period were $18.3 billion, with the leather sector’s share reaching $1.6 billion. For the same period last year, leather sector exports were $1.4 billion. The figures come from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.
Leather footwear exports contributed the bulk of this figure, reaching a value of $1.3 billion and showing growth of 13.5%. In April alone, footwear exports stood at $330 million, against $300 million in corresponding month last year.
