Initiative to support Kanpur leather industry

A subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), one of India’s leading infrastructure development and finance companies, is set to launch a joint-venture company with business figures in the city of Kanpur to support the  leather industry in that part of the country.

The new set-up will provide Kanpur tanners with treatment plants, power and human resources to help the leather industry grow. The proposed name for the new company is the Kanpur-Unnao Leather Cluster Development Company.

The industry in Kanpur must improve to comply with the pollution control norms set by its home state, Uttar Pradesh, where the authorities have closed more than 50 tanning units in the past two years.
