Customs official agrees to look at new prices

The chairman of the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA), Fawad Ijaz Khan, has held a meeting with the country's customs officials to discuss issues of interest to the sector.

The customs authorities issued a public notice in 2000 fixing a benchmark for checking the prices of leather garments going for export. In the intervening eight years, costs have risen sharply, which Mr Fawad said meant the authorities should revise current arrangements.

PLGMEA later reported that the chief collector of customers for the southern region, Munir Qureshi, had agreed to look into the matter and consider a new set of prices the association had submitted.
