Mission to boost beef

The owner of Russia’s largest tannery has travelled to Montana in the US as part of a group that is seeking to improve the beef sector at home.

Igor Koskin, of the ZAO tannery in Ryazan, was a member of a visiting group that held talks with cattle industry leaders in Montana to learn more about boosting livestock herds using genetics.

The tannery claims to use more than 40% of all of Russia’s hides and skins and is worried by recent trends that have seen Russia's cattle herd population go down.
