Leathergoods brand makes move for rival

12/05/2008

Parma-based leathergoods firm Antichi Pelletieri has announced that it will acquire Finduck, the company behind the Mandarina Duck brand.

Mandarina Duck, established in Bologna in 1977, provides a full range of handbags and accessories. The company is responsible for a range of bags currently on the market under the name of automotive brand Mini (see World Leather, May 2008).

Finduck generated approximately €67 million of revenues in 2007, mostly in western Europe. Industry observers have suggested that Antichi Pellettieri’s strategy may be to develop the brand in emerging markets.

Finduck’s retail network  includes 94 Mandarina Duck boutiques worldwide (35 directly operated stores and 59 franchisees), of which 41 are located in Italy, 33 elsewhere in Europe and 20 in other parts of the world. Antichi Pellettieri has 176 boutiques, including flagship stores in Parma and on Milan's Via Montenapoleone.
