Tunisia pleased with growth

Figures released recently by the Tunisian government show impressive growth in leather-sector exports, with footwear bond for the European Union (EU) leading the way.
In the years between 2001 and 2006, leather exports from the North African country rose by 25.6% and leading it to command a 3% share of all leather footwear imports in the EU, of which 40% go to Italy and 35% to France. The government said on announcing the figures that this put Tunisia the top ten of leather footwear exporters to Europe, with the total for 2006 reaching 19.8 million pairs.
