Bertin tests new unit in Mato Grosso
08/05/2008
Brazilian meat-packer and tanning group Bertin is preparing a new plant in the state of Mato Grosso for exports of beef specifically for the Iranian market. Brazilian companies in the meat and leather sectors have worked hard to build up their presence in the Middle East in recent months.
Bertin is testing its facilities and slaughtering 850 head per day in preparation for the first shipment of beef to Iran after the plant opens fully in the second half of the year. The plant, which employs 850 people, recently received its certification from the Federal Inspection Service (SIF).
It is expected that the new unit will slaughter over 4,000 animals per day and become the most productive of its kind in the country. Until exports begin, 100% of the beef cuts produced there will be sold in the domestic market, the company has informed.
The Bertin Group is a 100% Brazilian capital holding operating in the cattle breeding, food, leather, PPG, hygiene and beauty, pet product, genitorial service, construction, road building, basic sewage and energy sectors. It owns 30 units that generate 30,000 jobs. The group operates in the domestic market as well as 80 countries across all five continents.
