Snake skins seized
30/04/2008
French customs officers have detained a lorry carrying almost 900 snake skins at the town of Saint-Louis in Haut-Rhin, close to the border with Germany and Switzerland. They also seized a variety of leathergoods made from snake.
The load included at least two Anaconda skins measuring four metres each.
The authorities said the two men on board the lorry had been detained; they were German citizens and said they had picked up the material in northern Italy. They could offer no documentation or permit for dealing in the skins.
