The tannery that went on fire in Brisbane on April 28 has been named as the Tasman Sheepskin Tannery.

The facility was gutted in the fire and. although the emergency services that arrived at the scene said there were no injuries, eye-witnesses said they saw at least two people being treated.

Residents in the area were concerned about the effect on air quality of fumes from the fire and in the days following the incident have called on the tannery to relocate.

The site is the Narangba Industrial Estate, which is close to residential streets and a local school. A safety campaigner, Fran Jell, told local media: “This is the third fire in three years and it's just a matter of time before the next one. Get those industries out of there.”
