More contamination controversy

The tanning sector is once again at the centre of an environmental row in Argentina.
This time, the citizens of the town of Jáuregui in the province of Buenos Aires have met with the director of the province's environmental management department and insisted that they want the authorities to carry out no further studies on the Curtarsa tannery in the town. Instead, they want the company involved to relocate.
People in the town claim pollution from the tannery could be linked to increases in cases of cancer and skin and respiratory illnesses there. The authorities issued the tannery with a certificate allowing it to continue producing leather, provided it met 20 conditions for improving its performance in waste management.
