New Cicur president wants to resurrect Leather Park
18/04/2008
The Chamber of the Mexican Tanning Industry (Cicur) has a new president, Sergio Castro Enríquez.
In taking office for 2008–2009, Mr Castro said that two of the most important things for the industry, centred on its traditional centre of production of León in the state of Guanajuato, were to have reliable supplies of power and of water.
He called on the authorities there to resurrect a previous plan to set up a dedicated Leather Park in the area.
He said the industry would support moves to clean up the River Turbio river encouraging tanneries two move away from urban areas.
The heavily polluted river runs through eight cities and towns in Guanajuato.
