Armani Indian venture could sell wholesale too

Giorio Armani's launch into the Indian market could include wholesale as well as retail trade.
The fashion brand announced a deal with property firm DLF earlier this month through which the Indian firm will set up dedicated Armani retail outlets in some of the country's most exclusive shopping malls.
Indian media have speculated, however, that Armani branded leathergoods and apparel could also be available wholesale through this partnership. This move would increase the range of products the Italian firm could bring into the Indian market.
The Indian retailing market is estimated at $180 billion. Of this, organised retailing comprises only 1.6%, around $ 3.5 billion. As India becomes more affluent, the retail market as a whole will grow quickly in the years ahead and the organised retailing segment will grow faster than any other.
