Uninterrupted growth for Vietnam
11/04/2008
Vietnam’s total exports reached $13 billion during the first quarter of the year and the share of leather and leathergoods (including footwear) in this was $1.2 billion.
This represents a growth of 14.5% compared to 2007, according to data released by General Statistics Office of the Vietnamese government.
Leather footwear—in spite of the ongoing anti-dumping measures in place in the European Union—accounted for the bulk of this, with a value of just over $1 billion for the quarter, an increase of 13%.
Exports of handbags, wallets, suitcases and umbrellas were worth $171 million, up from $139 million for the same period last year, showing a growth of 23%.
