Contraband leather seized

The authorities in an impoverished part of northern Peru have seized a lorry carrying four tonnes of contraband leather.
Police in the province of Sullana, close to the border with Ecuador said that the leather had passed through several hands to avoid customs duty and taxes.
The material, tanned bovine leather, was of Ecuadorian origin but the lorry driver could produce no official import documents.
