Louis Vuitton to take to the streets
03/04/2008
Louis Vuitton has announced that it plans to take street-vendors on at their own game.
Vuitton Chief executive, Yves Carcelle, was in attendance at the Brooklyn Museum in New York in early April for a preview of a new exhibition of the work of Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. Murakami has contributed design ideas to a new collection of Vuitton bags.
The bags have signature Murakami designs printed on canvas with top-quality calf leather trims and handles.
Mr Carcelle explained that his company, which has 40 people working full time at its headquarters in Paris to combat counterfeiting of its products, had come up with a novel way of stopping street-vendors from congregating outside the museum to sell fake handbags. Vuitton will have its own vendors there selling the genuine article.
