The Indian State-Tamil Nadu on March 21 announced that it has proposed to set up four special economic zones (SEZs) in areas that have been slow to change over to modern industrial methods. Among the activities that authorities want to encourage are the manufacture of leathergoods and footwear.
State finance minister K Anbazhagan said that the plan included a proposal to open an SEZ specifically for the leather sector on a site at Ranipet in Vellore district.
