Good export performance from leather industry

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh’s total leather sector earnings are up by 15.3% to $ 235.2 million in the first six months, July-December, of FY 2007-08, from $204 million in the previous year.

The breakdown showed that Bangladesh exported finished leather worth $153.80 million in this period compared to $135.07 million in the corresponding period last year,  a growth of 13.9%.

Similarly, leather footwear exports also showed a positive growth of 18.60% to $76.34 million
from $64.37 million and leather bags & purcses 10.99% to $5.04 million from $4.55 million in corresponding period last year.

The total Bangladesh leather export-earning target for the current fiscal year has been set at $473 million out of country’s total export target of $14.5 billion.
