Leather production in the northern Argentinian province of La Rioja has received a boost. The provincial minister for livestock has announced an agreement between La Rioja and Argentina’s National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) for tanneries in the province to begin adding value to local goatskins.
The minister, Silvio Murua, told local media: “Tanned goatskins are worth 60 pesos ($19) whereas raw skins are barely worth two pesos. And let’s not even begin to compare the value of finished leathergoods such as wallets and purses.”
He said a new production site would begin operations this month, with the INTI providing equipment and other help.
