EU to resume beef imports from Brazil

29/02/2008

After the Brazilian authorities guaranteed compliance with necessary standards, the EU has authorised that Brazilian beef imports can be resumed from 106 audited farms.

Spokesperson for the European Commission Health & Consumer Protection Directorate-General, Nina Papadoulaki, stated: "Brazilian authorities have submitted a provisional list containing the details of 106 farms, together with their audit reports, to the EU Commission. The Brazilian government guarantees that these farms comply with all the requirements for beef exports.”

Although this is a step forward for the Brazilian industry, the European veterinary doctors will continue to inspect 30 farms randomly selected from the list in order to establish whether the Brazilian sanitary control system is reliable.
