As established leathergoods and luxury brands enjoy significant growth in the emerging markets as consumer spending continues to rise, it appears that some domestic manufacturers in these regions now want to secure their share of the burgeoning sales.

One such company is Indian luggage and leather accessories manufacturer Kanpur Leather House Pvt, which has revealed ambitious plans to expand in the domestic and international market over the next couple of years.

Having already established a reputation for its KLH brand in the east of the country with outlets in Kolkata, Durgapur, Siliguri, and Kharagpur, the company now hopes to open branded showrooms and warehouses in all of India’s major towns and cities, with the ultimate goal of achieving a global presence for its products and name. According to I.H. Khurshaidii, managing director: “Very soon KLH will position itself among the foremost accredited brands around the globe. Plans are afoot to open company operations in the USA, Europe and the Middle East and China”.

The company plans to open showrooms in every Indian state capital and establish at least 100 franchise showrooms across the country by 2010. It has already established offices and showrooms in Mumbai and Ahmedabad and has finalized a deal for a further outlet in Bangalore.

The company is also in the process of upgrading its main manufacturing facility to achieve ISO certification and has plans to set up another unit by next year.
