According to a recent report in the Daily Trust newspaper, chairman of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Commerce, Sen. Joel Ikenya, has pledged to help the country’s leather industry in solving the current problems of tanneries working below capacity due to a lack of hides and skins which is inhibiting growth. However, he called on the private sector to step up investment in the sector in order to increase employment and aid the country’s industrial expansion.
