Fall in production hits both east and west
It appears that it is not only the traditional, established European leather centres such as France and Italy (see www.leatherbiz.com February 11, 2008) that are now reporting a fall in leather production looking at the latest figures from eastern European countries such as Slovakia.
According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, although overall industrial production increased 6.4% year-on-year in December 2007, boosted mainly by growth in the manufacturing sector, the production of leather and leather goods fell by 17.5%.
