Leather production falls in France and Italy
Despite the best efforts of those in the industry to continue to produce leather in traditional European manufacturing centres, the production figures continue to decline.
While in Italy overall industrial production fell for the fourth consecutive month in December, the leather manufacturing sector decreased by 2.2%, well above the overall decline of 0.5%.
Meanwhile, in France the industrial sector as a whole saw a turnaround as production rose 0.3% in December after having recorded consistent declines since October; however, once again the leather sector was unable to achieve any improvement as the production of leather apparel fell another 1.9%.
