Although sales at the company’s Retail Leathercraft division sales matched that of January 2007, totalling $2 million, comparable store sales fell 6%; while its Wholesale Leathercraft segment posted sales of only $2.3 million, 7% below the figure for the same month last year, as same store sales declined a significant 10%.
Commenting on the negative trend, chief executive and president, Ron Morgan, said: "Although our goal is always to match or exceed last year's sales and we didn't quite get there in January, we are not surprised by the continued weakness in our sales… We believe positive financial reports in 2008 will be the result of expense control, not sales gains.”
