CNL modification on Argentinean leather considered
Following a request from the US Trade Representative (USTR), the independent body of the US International Trade Commission (ITC) has begun seeking input for an investigation concerning the possible modification of its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for numerous imported products for which it has received and accepted petitions, including Argentinean leather.
Following a petition made by the Argentinean government, and supported by the Tanned Leather Trade Association (CICA), ITC will now advise on the impact of granting a waiver of the USA’s “competitive need limits” for Argentina for certain full grain unsplit bovine and equine leather.
"Competitive need limits" is the maximum import level of a product that is eligible for duty-free treatment according to the Generalized System of Preferences under which, once the limit is reached, trade is considered "competitive".
ITC is expected to submit its report to USTR by April 17, after which a public version will be published.
