CLE export awards announced
While the leather industry in India is facing tough times as a result of the strong appreciation of the rupee, the country’s manufacturers have still managed to improve export volumes (see www.leatherbiz.com January 10 for more in-depth figures). In recognition of their performance numerous companies have been presented with export awards by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) at the current IILF show in Chennai.
M/s. Superhouse Ltd., based in Kanpur, has been awarded the Gold Trophy for its overall export performance in 2006/07, while M/s. Mirza International Ltd., also from Kanpur, will receive the Silver Trophy.
Approximately 58 other leather companies have also been recognised and will receive a plaque and a Certificate of Merit for their performance in the finished leather, leather footwear, leather garments, leather goods, footwear components, fashion and sports gloves, and industrial leather manufacturing sectors.
Meanwhile the CLE bestowed this year’s Design Award 2008 to three footwear companies and one leather goods manufacturer and has awarded 18 other companies with the The Modeurop Award 2008, including M/s. Tata
International Ltd. in Chennai.
