IILF opens its doors

Chairman of the India’s National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, officially opened the 23rd Indian International Leather Fair (IILF) in Chennai today (January 31), which is set to attract the largest number of participants seen in recent times,

Having already registered record numbers of visitors in 2007 (in excess of 15,000) and with 12% more exhibition space this year (8,000m2), organisers have high hopes for the 2008 event, which will run until February 3.

Almost 400 companies will exhibit at the show, presenting their latest leather footwear, garments, belts, bags, gloves, wallets, fashion accessories, leather machinery and chemicals, including 140 foreign companies from 22 different countries such as Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, the UK, and the USA.

A series of eleven presentations and seminars will also be held alongside the show including ‘CE Marketing’ by Dr. G. Nickolaus, from PFI, Germany; ‘Lean Manufacturing Systems’ presented by SAP; ‘Performance Management Systems’ by Mind; ‘E-Commerce’ by IBM; ‘Future Directions in Information Technology for the Industry’ by Oracle; ‘Design Development & Product Engineering for Leather Fashion Accessories’ by Cristina Siwek, Italy; ‘Leather Garments Design’ by Shalini Sud., NIFT, Dehli; ‘Use of CAD/CAM Technologies in Footwear Designing & Manufacturing Processes’ by Magda Nagy, a consultant at FDDI; ‘World Raw Material Markets and the Status of the Tanning Industry in China, Italy and Brazil’ by Ron Sauer Repot; ‘US Hides and Skins’ by Sugan Hogan from the US Hides and Skins and Leather Association, Kelley Merine from the Union Hides Co. and Barbara Grodzins from the Wester Hide Company; and ‘Succeeding in European Retail Markets’ by Alan Drag from SATRA Technology Centre, UK.
