Farmers stick their necks out for emus

Following its recent mid-year meeting, the American Emu Association (AEA) has reported a significant rise in interest in emu farming across the USA, from both established farmers seeking to expand and those looking to enter the industry.

According to the association the emu is becoming more and more of an attractive alternative to other traditional animals because after harvesting the meat other co-products including the hides and feathers can be sold. “You can wind up with free meat for your family’s table,” said Charles Ramey, AEA president. “Selling the co-products will pay for the feed and give a profit.”
