Is Li Ning about to step on Nike’s toes?
According to American media China’s largest athletic footwear and apparel company Li Ning may be aiming to knock Nike off the top spot in the global market.
The company, which currently holds the third largest market share in China after Nike and adidas, is believed to have opened its first office outside of China in Portland, USA, which just happens to be the town where Nike has its headquarters!
However, although this may appear to be more than a huge coincidence, a number of other big name brands such as Columbia Sportswear, Keen, and Le Coq Sportif also have facilities in Portland, making it therefore a sensible choice for Li Ning in terms of recruiting suitably qualified staff.
Whether the move is merely aimed at improving its international presence or a challenge to Nike’s supremacy remains to be seen.
