New Year, more new faces in Italy
It appears that the New Year is proving to be a time for change at Italian luxury brands. While Bulgari S.p.A. has named Paolo Cuccia as a non-executive and independent member of the company’s board of directors (see www.leatherbiz.com January 21) luxury fashion and leathergoods company Mariella Burani Fashion Group S.p.A. (MBFG) has appointed a new general manager and a new chairman of the board.
As part of its strategy of international growth that is expected to lead the Italian group to exceed revenues of €1 billion in 2010, MBFG has named Luca Bertolini as general manager of the company and Heinz Hackl as executive chairman of the management board of Renè Lezard GmbH, a German company controlled by MBFG.
Mr Bertolini has worked with the group for over ten years as chairman and chief executive of its subsidiary JAYA Srl, licensee of Alviero Martini and Ungaro, while Mr Hackl joins the company having worked for brands such as Marc o' Polo GmbH, Joop and Karstadt GmbH.
