Improved quality leads to higher leather exports
Speaking to local press, Tanzania’s minister for Livestock Development Anthony Dialo announced that the African country’s leather exports improved significantly in the last financial year to exceed TZS16 billion ($14.211, million).
He stated that the increased figures were the direct result of ongoing schemes to improve the quality of beef and leather produced in the country. He added that this would be further enhanced this year through a new programme to register all livestock.
According to the Ministry of Livestock Development, Tanzania now ranks third in Africa in terms of livestock population after Sudan and Ethiopia, with a national herd of approximately 18.5million cattle, 13.1million goats and 3.5million sheep.
