Lanxess to close facility

German chemical company Lanxess has announced that it will close is to close its Ion Exchange Resins production facility in Birmingham, USA, in May this year.

The closure will lead to the loss of 90 jobs.

Commenting on the decision, board member Rainier van Roessel said: "Despite all our efforts, the production of ion exchange resins in Birmingham is no longer competitive.“

The business unit, which manufactures products for wastewater treatment among others, belongs to the Performance Chemicals segment and only operates this one location in North America.
