Footwear production stepped up
Although the exact figures are still in some question as a result of various organisations publishing different statistics, one thing is for sure — Argentina manufactured more footwear in 2007 than ever before.
According to domestic consultancy firm Investigaciones Económicas Sectoriales (IES) production increased 9.4% year-on-year to reach 87 million pairs, while the Argentinean footwear industry association (Cámara de la Industria del Calzado) was even more optimistic, placing production at 90 million pairs, up 10% from the 80 million produced in 2006.
While exports improved by 9-11%, domestic consumption also increased, rising to 112 million pairs from 110 million in 2006.
