US export sales for week ending 3/1/2008
Hides and Skins: Net sales for the 2008 marketing year (which began January 1) were 212,600 pieces, including 202,500 pieces of whole cattle hides. The major buyers of whole cattle hides were China (111,600 pieces), South Korea (36,900 pieces), Taiwan (23,500 pieces), and Hong Kong (12,200 pieces). Sales of 4,067,300 pieces, including 4,015,300 pieces of whole cattle hides, were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2007 marketing year. Exports of 204,500 pieces — all whole cattle hides — were reported for December 28-31, with the primary destinations of China (102,200 pieces), South Korea (67,000 pieces), and Japan (15,700 pieces). Accumulated exports of hides and skins for 2007 were 26,166,800 pieces, up 8 per cent from the prior year’s total of 24,333,200 pieces. Exports for January 1-3 of 151,900 pieces, including whole cattle hides of 144,800 pieces, were primarily to China (63,800 pieces), South Korea (50,600 pieces), Italy (9,100 pieces), Mexico (6,300 pieces), and Thailand (5,700 pieces).
Net sales of wet blues for the 2008 marketing year totalled 31,600 hides. The main buyers were Mexico (12,700 grain splits and 3,800 unsplit), the Dominican Republic (12,000 grain splits and 2,000 unsplit), and South Korea (8,300 unsplit). A total of 516,000 hides were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2008 marketing year. Exports of 19,000 hides were reported for December 29-31, with the primary destinations of Vietnam (5,500 unsplit), Hong Kong (3,100 unsplit), and Italy (2,000 unsplit). Accumulated exports of wet blues totalled 7,202,200 hides, up 22 per cent from the 5,911,900 hides exported during the 2006 marketing year. Exports for January 1-3 were 84,900 hides with the primary destinations of China (26,300 unsplit), Italy (16,700 unsplit), Mexico (12,100 grain splits and 800 unsplit), and Hong Kong (7,900 unsplit).
Net sales of splits totalled 462,000 pounds for the 2008 marketing year. The buyers were Hong Kong (217,000 pounds), China (200,000 pounds), and South Korea (45,000 pounds). Total sales of 4,508,800 pounds were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2008 marketing year. Exports of splits totalling 264,600 pounds were reported for December 29-31 with the destinations of South Korea (135,000 pounds) and China (129,600 pounds). Accumulated exports of splits totalled 52,911,600 pounds, up 1 per cent from the prior year’s total of 52,476,900 pounds. Exports of 317,000 pounds were reported for January 1-3, with the destinations of Italy (270,000 pounds) and Hong Kong (47,000 pounds).
