Although we are constantly being told how luxury brands, whether it be accessories, footwear or cars, continue to thrive in the face of economic uncertainty, while mid-range products struggle; the latest Best Global Brands survey may cause certain analysts to reconsider their statements.

The latest survey, conducted by branding consultancy Interbrand and media organisation BusinessWeek, has placed Korea’s Hyundai in 72nd place in the listing, with a brand value of $4.5 billion, well ahead of luxury brand rivals such as Porsche, Lexus and Nissan.

Commenting on the company’s speedy rise up the rankings, vice-president for brand strategy, Brandon Yea, said: “Our brand management is supported by continuous improvement in the quality of our products and diversification of our model line-up.” The company also cited “dramatic improvements in the quality of Hyundai vehicles” for the improved public perception of the brand.
