Eleventh 'mad cow' confirmed in Canada
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed a new case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. A beef cow in Alberta was found to have the disease.
The agency said in a press release that the latest case will not affect Canada's status as a "controlled risk" country for BSE and it insisted no part of the animal had entered the food chain.
This is the eleventh case to have come to light since Canada first confirmed the presence of the disease in 2003. A further case in Washington State in the US was also traced to Canada.
