Chemical firm BASF has announced that it will put the emphasis on fashion and inspiration when it exhibits at the first major leather event of 2008, the India International Leather Fair, which runs in Chennai from January 31 until February 3.
The company will present five effects that can be applied to all kinds of leather and have been designed especially for the South Asian market. They are especially for the footwear, garment and leathergoods sectors and can each give leather one of five fashion looks: formal, casual, sporty, trendy and fusion.
BASF will also present a collection of 12 new types of leather for spring-summer 2009 at the event, under the banner 'Inspirations for leather'. The collection combines the bright colors of the Venetian carnival with a variety of unusual features such as fine stripes in fresh pastel shades, wild two-tone brushstroke effects, and spots and polka dots. BASF fashion experts from Europe have supported their Indian colleagues with the latest trends from the fashion capitals of Italy and Spain.
"The leather market in India is one of our most important prospective markets", said Thomas Sattler, responsible for the global leather business at BASF, on announcing the line-up for Chennai. "The South Asian and particularly the Indian leather industry has lots of similarities to Italy and Spain in terms of their outlook on fashion. We hope to be able to contribute our global expertise for the benefit of customers in this part of the world."
