Leather industry posts impressive growth

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s quick estimates of industrial production for October, India’s Leather and Leather and Fur Goods industries reported impressive growth of 32.2% compared with the same month in 2006. This ranked as the third highest level of improvement in the country’s industrial sectors, beaten only by Wood and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures’ which increased 73.7%a and ‘Other Manufacturing Industries’ at 34.2%.

Overall the country posted very strong growth across the board, with 16 of its 17 industry groups improving. Only ‘Metal Products and Parts, except machinery and Equipment’ recorded a decline for the month, with output falling 19.8% year-on-year.
