Bolivia's first caiman breeding farm, Crocoland, has announced that it is ready to begin its first slaughter and is looking forward to shipping its first meat and skin exports to Europe, Asia, and the USA.

Having started with 2,000 caiman (1,600 females and 400 males), the farm now has 24,000 animals which the company hopes to begin slaughtering in June, once they reach 90cm in length. The first exports are likely to begin in September.

In preparation for the slaughter, Crocoland will begin constructing the next phase of its facilities, including an abattoir, a meat packing plant and a specialised tannery in March.

"Both the meat and the skins will be exported to buyers in Europe, Asia and the USA. Because these markets are very demanding, we are investing heavily in quality," said Alejandro Franulic, general manager.
