Cattle prices hiked in run up to Eid

06/12/2007

According to local reports cattle traders in Lahore are in uproar over middlemen allegedly hiking taxes in the run up to the Eid festival.

Sources claim that some middlemen are charging up to ten times the usual amount of tax on sacrificial cattle as the market rush begins and that neither the police nor the local government appears willing to intervene in the situation.

Contractors have denied claims of over-charging.
