BASF opens another new plant in India
Highlighting the growing significance of India as a major hub for the global leather industry, German chemical company BASF has announced the opening of a second plant in the South Asian country in as many days.
Having opened the first stage of a new technical centre in Thane near Mumbai just yesterday (see www.leatherbiz.com December 4) the chemical giant has now celebrated the inauguration of a new Eukesolar dye manufacturing plant in Mangalore, in the south of the country.
The new plant will serve customers in the Asian market as well as other regions, extending the company’s portfolio of leather powder dye production at its well-established Mangalore site.
“The establishment of the Eukesolar plant is part of BASF’s strategy to continually strengthen its commitment to the Indian market, which is one of our most important prospective markets,” said Thomas Sattler, head of the company’s global leather business.
According to the company, “Together with the new service centre in Thane, which was inaugurated yesterday, the Eukesolar plant will provide the Indian leather industry with major benefits, including a broad portfolio of technical support, advisory services and short delivery times.”
