Leather exports edge towards $2 billion

05/12/2007

According to the latest figures released by the Confederation of Brazilian Hides and Skins Industries (CICB), the South American country’s leather exports rose a significant 18.3% in the first 11 months of 2007 (January to November) to reach $1.99 billion.

On announcing the latest statistics, despite having voiced concerns over the availability of raw material next year due to lower beef consumption, president of CICB, Luiz Bittencourt, said that leather had become one of Brazil’s most important exports and that the figures for 2007 were likely to top the $2 billion-mark.
