Sales slip at Cognis spin-off
German chemical company Cognis has posted lower sales at its wholly-owned subsidiary Pulcra Chemicals due to weaker demand for leather chemicals in North America and southern Europe.
Despite achieving high growth in the Asia-Pacific region, Pulcra Chemicals, which was formerly the company’s Process Chemicals SBU and which was spun off into an independent company on July 1 this year, reported a 3.4% drop in sales to €187 million, due to lower sales in its leather and the textiles segments in North America, and a fall in leather chemical sales in southern Europe.
·Overall, however, the company achieved 3.9% growth in net external sales for the first nine months to reach €2.655 billion.
